Dawn-Lit Post managed to remove imbalance

Madam,

Since its formation in 1995, NIHRO has witnessed the growth of the fourth estate in Arunachal Pradesh through close interaction with the journalists and the news papers they work for. The emergence of the Dawn-lit Post removed the then existing east-west imbalance in terms of news coverage and in this way, the paper serves the larger interest of the state. The news paper is known for responsible reporting and for upholding the right to freedom of expression even by putting its staff at the risk of attacks by those bent upon stifling the democratic voice of citizens of the state.

The organization is concerned at the growing feeling of insecurity among the journalists due to threats to their lives, some time or the other. NIHRO appreciates the civil society organizations of the state for coming out with press statements condemning the attack on Mr. Ravindran. The organization joins the rest in demanding from the government appropriate and timely, punitive action against the culprits. At the same time, the organization recommends award from media community for journalists such as Mr. Ravindran who are performing their duties towards the society risking their lives and thereby upholding the image of fourth estate.

Yours.

Tado Karlo

Chairman, NIHRO

Peaceful discussion brings fruitful solution

Madam,

Apropos the letter published in ‘Readers’ Forum’ columns in your esteemed daily on July 22 last, we on behalf of  Dimapur Footpath Trader Women Welfare Society, ltanagar, would like to express our opinion.

S Bagang, the writer of the letter, has no right to kick on our stomach by inducing the authority to evict us from the place where we had installed small shops to earn hardly a daily bread.

We want Bagang to explain how it turns like ‘a dinosaur hatching its offspring’ when the State Govt has constructed a pay toilet beneath the clock tower for welfare of the public as a part of the cleanliness drive. Where have you been for about 5 years when there was lot of dirty things in and around the clock tower? If the Govt evicts the 31 shopkeepers, where will they go?

We have no personal enmity with Bagang. We welcome him to discuss the matter peacefully but not by this way, publishing article in the newspapers.

Yours,

Biki Yanya, president

Godak Yapi, secretary

Dimapur Footpath Trader Women Welfare Society, Itanagar.
